Why Healing Feels So Slow (and Why That Doesn't Mean You're Failing)

Every small move counts. Even this one.
Every small move counts. Even this one.

You're putting in the work. So why does nothing seem to be changing?

I've tried everything… and nothing's changed.

I feel worse now than I did.

I understand why I do what I do…

but I'm still doing it.

I keep coming back to the same place.

So I start wondering…

Is this even working?

Is this the right way for me?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

And then it goes a bit deeper…

Maybe there's something wrong with me.

What if my problems are too big for this to work?

It feels like swimming in treacle…

so much effort… and very little movement.

It's tiring.

Exhausting.

Frustrating.

And at times… emotionally painful.

And after a while…

you start to wonder what the point is.

Perhaps I should just stop trying…

just accept this is the way it is…

and the way it's always going to be.

Perhaps it's not that nothing is changing…

It could be that it's just not showing up in the way you expected.

It might be because you don't notice the changes you've already made.

Maybe it's easier to look at now…

where before you would have avoided it completely.

And that might mean something has changed after all…

even if it doesn't feel like much.

But… is that all?

It doesn't feel like enough of a change…

especially after all the effort… time… money.

I'm not sure what to do…

do I continue…

change approach…

or just accept this is how it is…

Maybe the change you've made… even if it feels small… is more than you realise.

Small doesn't mean small in value.

What you're noticing might seem insignificant…

especially compared to the outcome you're hoping for.

But that doesn't mean it is.

On the surface… it can look like very little is happening.

Something small.

Almost not worth counting.

But in reality…

it might matter more than you think.

It's hard to notice change when it feels so small.

We tend to think real change should be big.

Obvious.

Clear.

Something you can't miss.

And that makes sense.

But smaller changes…

they're easier to overlook.

And in doing that…

it can feel like nothing is really changing at all.

Sometimes there are other things to consider too.

The approach might not feel right.

The support might not quite fit.

That matters.

But it doesn't automatically mean

that what you've already done hasn't counted.

What if something has already started…

even if it doesn't look the way you expected?

What if what feels small now…

is part of something you can't fully see yet?

So what small changes…

might you be dismissing?

If this resonated…

It can help to have something in your corner each week.

Not advice. Not pressure.

Just honest, grounded writing about what comes up when you’re doing this kind of work

— the doubt, the slow progress, the moments where you wonder if it’s worth it.

Because sometimes just knowing you’re not alone in it… makes it easier to keep going.
